Gastric bypass surgery (gastrectomy)

Important information to know before gastric bypass surgery (gastric sleeve)

As we know that obesity has become one of the most dangerous diseases in the world. Unfortunately, according to global statistics, death due to obesity has become more than death due to hunger. Obesity has become one of the most dangerous diseases in the world after smoking. Because of this increase, the demand for obesity surgeries has become. Nowadays, when we say an obesity operation, we immediately think of the sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass surgery. There are many operations for obesity, such as the stomach ring – or the gastric band, but these operations have become a thing of the past because the stomach cutting process has become the most famous and safest operation in obesity operations.

What is the process of cutting the stomach (gastrectomy)?

It is an operation that is under general anesthesia and is applied laparoscopically (i.e. through an endoscope) in which approximately 70 percent of the large stomach section is cut (the stomach is made up of two large and small sections). The main objective of this operation is to extract the section of the stomach in which the hunger hormone release center (ghrelin) is located, and this point is the most important point to ensure the success of the operation.

How is stomach surgery (gastric sleeve) performed?

After a direct examination with the doctor and making the necessary analyzes, the patient is anesthetized, then the operation begins by opening about 7 very small holes in the abdomen area, and entering through these holes into the stomach, and this is called sleeve gastrectomy with the closed technique, meaning that no large incisions are opened in the body. The doctor begins the operation through a small camera connected to the TV screen. A large part of the stomach is cut with special tools, and then the doctor performs stomach punctures (gastric stapling). The patient stays 2-3 days in the hospital after the operation. Before leaving the hospital, complete controls are made, and the patient is given a colored liquid to drink in order to detect whether there is any leakage in the stomach, and he returns to his normal life after 5 days of the operation.

Important information about the sleeve gastrectomy!!!

– You must follow the doctor’s procedures on a regular basis.
– Medicines and vitamins prescribed by the doctor must be used regularly.
– You should not eat hard or fatty foods within 4 weeks after the sleeve gastrectomy and eat soft or mashed foods.
– The stapling control must be done by the doctor before leaving the hospital
– We must arrange our lives and continuously develop a healthy diet program after the operation so that it does not affect the size of the stomach
